The third quarter actually gave a ray of hope for Tamil cinema in 2018. These three months filled with many hits, superhits and quality content. After Mr.Chandramouli bit the dust at the box office, two films— Kadai Kutty Singam and Tamizh Padam 2 which released for the same weekend brought the audiences to the theaters. Kadai Kutty Singam went on to become a super hit especally in B and C markets and it was declared as the second biggest hit in Karthi’s career after Paruthiveeran. Tamizh Padam 2 mainly an urban phenomenon also got a massive opening and fetched profits to the makers, the film attracted the youngsters to theaters whereas Kadai Kutty Singam brought family audiences.

It also brought out the fissures within TFPC as Tamil Padam2's producer and its distributor went against the TFPC dikat of not having two big releases a week. As Sarkar and ‘2.0’ occupied theaters for more than two weeks each, there were no other big releases in November.

But because of these two biggies, the Christmas weekend got overcrowded. Six films including Jayam Ravi’s Adangamaru, Vijay Sethupathi’s Seethakaathi, Dhanush’s Maari 2, Vishnu Vishal’s Silukkuvarpatti Singam, Sivakarthikeyan’s production venture Kaana and Kannada biggie KGF. Among these six films, Kanaa and Adangamaru are holding well at the box office so trade believes that these films will fetch profits to all parties associated.
